Limits lifted for teenage drivers

Speeding young drivers may be a problem on most of the UK’s estates, but in one Scottish town they’re actually being encouraged.
Boy racers have been given access to free laps of Knockhill racing circuit in an effort to curb their speeding on the nearby Kirkcaldy Esplanade.
According to local police, the track run-outs are an effort to encourage safer driving by showing youngsters that motoring can be fun in the proper environment while anti-social driving is unacceptable in the local community.
It’s not just the locals who can benefit if the teenagers think about how they drive – but it’s the teenagers themselves too.
Car insurance premiums are notoriously high for young drivers at the best of times but driving with a series of motoring convictions can send payments through the roof.
Speeding, joyriding and driving under the influence will produce fines as well as potential convictions – but young offenders will go on paying long after the conviction is cleared due to the rise in car insurance costs.
Building up a no-claims discount is also a key to securing cheap car insurance – but will be instantly wiped out by an at-fault accident.
For young drivers who want to save money, driving safely is not the only route to cheap car insurance. The fewer modifications, such as alloy wheels, racing stripes and powerful stereo systems, which are made to the car, the better in the eyes of insurers.
It also helps to shop around for cheap car insurance using a comparison tool and searching by manufacturer name – such as Ford car insurance. Advanced driving courses will also help to cut premiums.
Above all however, the message to teenagers is clear – safe driving pays off, for the community and for your wallets.
