Why that Friday feeling gives us the car insurance jitters

By: LuckySeven | Posted: 24th January 2008

Perhaps it’s our joy at the prospect of two days away from the workplace, or perhaps we’re day-dreaming ahead to the night’s events, but for whatever reason Friday is the most dangerous day of the week to be on the road.

Research from car insurance provider Admiral Insurance revealed that Fridays are the worst day for accidents regardless of the month. In fact, the most dangerous day of the entire year is January 18 – so if you came through that date unscathed perhaps you can afford a sigh of relief.

It’s difficult to find one specific reason why drivers take their eyes off the ball (or off the road) on Fridays. Traditionally however, the roads are busiest on this day of the week as commuters return home and holidaymakers head off on weekend breaks.

No matter what the cause of the accidents may be, there is a strong message for drivers to be extra wary on the roads on Fridays. Not only could an accident leave you requiring medical attention or worse it could also have a serious affect on your car insurance premiums.

In an effort to secure cheap car insurance, drivers should build-up several years without claims. With the majority of providers, you will be rewarded for safe driving with a no-claims discount – however, these savings will be lost as soon as you make a claim.

By contrast, the safest days of the year are December 25, December 26 and February 29 - which only comes around once every four years.

However, this year, the car insurance company points out that February 29 falls on a Friday. So drivers are being urged to drive safely or their cheap car insurance premiums may take an unexpected jump, this leap year.
