Mobile Phones – The future is here! Part 1
By: Jennifer Quirk | Posted: 23rd June 2008
Mobile phones first hit the headlines in 1973 when Motorola representative Dr Cooper made the first mobile telephone call in front of huge audiences, but it was not until 10 years later that the first mobile phones hit technology stores. Since that time, sound quality has become much crisper, the features have become more luxurious and thankfully, the size of the phones themselves has decreased dramatically.
Although Star Wars style holograms and cheap and casual video phone conversations are still to arrive on our mobile phones, there are plenty of features that are readily available that were certainly futuristic and thought impossible several years ago. If you think about how huge the original mobile phones were and they barely worked, it’s understandable that the idea of them being able to take photographs conjured images of a suitcase sized piece of equipment!
It is difficult not to find video, camera, MP3 etc on mobile phones nowadays; in fact, we are likely to scoff if they are not standard. If you compare this attitude to the complete awe we had for the huge breezeblock sized devices that were first on the market you can gather a good idea oh how quickly and how drastically the market has improved.
The latest news the mobile phone and gadget business scenes are reporting is that the new technology being developed seems to take advantage of what is already available on our phones today.
US cell phone developer “Sprint” have grasped hold of the opportunity with both of it’s hands, and have created a money making device for their business and at the same time, a trendy and handy service for it’s mobile phone customers.
Their latest creation has been named the “Jukebox”. These large and colourful devices are being placed in diners, cinemas, bars and other social places for use by customers having a fun time. The general idea is that you send an SMS text message to a predefined number code on the jukebox, which will correspond with a track that you want downloaded to your phone.
The Jukebox has literally thousands of songs on its hard drive, and will be updated regularly. The payment will be taken from the SMS charge, and the music file will be bluetoothed to your handset immediately.
There are plans to advance on this technology if it a success, with videos, wallpapers, sound effect, voicemail messages etc being added to the selection.
Sprint are expecting the technology to be a success due to many customers being unhappy with the current market only being available through billed sign up companies that are fickle when it comes to cancelling subscription and payments.
The Jukebox will allow customers to buy a product like they would in a shop, in one straight payment and they get what they paid for immediately.
End of part one.
Mobile phone companies are always offering cheap mobile phones on their discount pages. If you’re not too fussed about having the latest model, grab yourself come great mobile phone deals by getting a slightly older version.
