Home Insurance won’t pay for a MySpace Party

It’s every parents worst nightmare, to leave your teenager at home for the weekend then coming back to find your house has been trashed. With the latest craze of social networking sites taking the UK by craze, many parties are being arranged online with an ‘all welcome’ invitation. The only problem with doing this is, if you invite everybody, then everybody WILL come.

There have been many incidents in the last few years and some have been mentioned on the news where a MySpace party has gone wrong. One teenager recently set up their own house party while their parents were away on holiday. The teen unknowingly set the invite to ‘all welcome’ meaning anybody who has heard about the invite is welcome to come. This fatal error causes a massive 200 gatecrashers to turn up and left her house looking like a disaster.

When the parents returned home early from their holiday after hearing what had happened, they were then dealt another blow when their home insurance provider refused to pay out any money as they were not covered for any damage caused as a result of a party thrown by their children. It is a common agreement in any insurance policy that the insurer will not have to pay out if either you or your children have acted irresponsibly.

The damage left by the party apparently accumulated thousands of pounds in bills and due to one silly mistake has meant their insurance provider won’t pay for a penny of it. If the parents had given permission for their child to throw a party while they were away, and if the party was not advertised on the internet, the family stood a chance of receiving money from their insurance.

There has been more than one occasion where this has happened and each occasion has met the same result with their insurance providers refusing to pay up.
