With ever demanding personal as well as professional lives people are becoming impatient and violent in nature, in general. These factors are apparent to us when we are part of Indian road traffic. Almost every road user(except few) is in a hurry to reach his or her destination and they are not afraid to make all drastic moves like jumping red lights, over-speeding, tailgate, make improper and unsafe lane changes, make hand and facial gestures, scream, honk and so on.
Deliberately dangerous and violent behavior under the influence of aggressive emotion such as anger and frustration, with regard to the use of automobiles is termed as Road Rage. Such inimical aggressive driving is clearly on the rise when we talk of Indian traffic, in particular. Due to lack of spacious roads and frequent violation of traffic rules in India, road rage has almost become inevitable.
Here I'll share with you some essential driving tips which will help you prevent yourself from becoming part of community of road ragers. Giving signals to show your intentions before making a move is duty of every responsible driver so try to adopt this good habit. Even if you, by mistake, cut off someone without giving prior signal, you can prevent a miff by apologizing to the other driver. At the same time if someone cuts you off, instead of screaming at him, slow down and give him enough space to merge into your lane, remember "His need may be more important than yours".
Try to be calm and facilitate an easy drive, for instance if you think the car in front of you is driving too slowly, doesn't indulge in continuous honking and driving to closely to it. This is because drivers get angry when they are followed too closely and moreover if the car does something unexpected like sudden application of breaks, you will have time to get out of the way provided, you are not to close to it.
Almost nothing makes another driver angrier than an obscene gesture. Avoid making any gestures that might rage another driver, even "harmless" expressions of annoyance like shaking your head should be avoided. Be a cautious and courteous driver, for instance if you and another driver see a parking place at the same time, let that person have it.
Road rage is a disease which is pervading and hampering driving in India in a very bad sense. Don't forget, "One angry driver can't start a fight unless another driver is willing to join in". So, never indulge in a quarrel with such an angry driver, just ignore them and continue your trip in a pleasant manner. By keeping these essential points in mind while driving, we can completely eliminate the community of road ragers from Indian traffic. And this will bring about a much needed change in traffic situation in India.
