Publish documents in PDF and the search engines such
as Google.Com and AllTheWeb.Com may just include the
PDF documents in their listings. An indication is
given that a document in PDF is available for
immediate download.

To publish documents in PDF (Portable Document Format)
is easy.

The easiest way to publish in PDF is to purchase and
use Adobe(R) Acrobat(R). All articles can be written
using MS Word(TM) and converted to PDF directly. The
Adobe(R) Reader(R) is required to read a PDF document.
The good news is that Adobe(R) Reader(R) is free to
use.

Some very good news:

The search engines Google.Com and AllTheWeb.Com do
include PDF documents published at websites in their
listings. This is a technology breakthrough. The
documents published in PDF are also displayed in HTML
(Hyper Text Mark-up Language) format at Google.Com.

Go to http://www.google.com and enter PDF as a keyword
such as the following:

[PDF keyword1 keyword 2]

When the search is completed it is possible to see
that a PDF document is available for direct download.
It is marked with [PDF].

When the user clicks on the specific link a connection
will be made and the document will be available for
immediate download.

The major advantage is that there is no need to go to
the specific website to look for the specific
document. It is available for download - immediately.

The disadvantage is that the user/searcher do not go
to the specific website.
Is this really a disadvantage?
All live links in the specific PDF document can be
used to open the MS Explorer and - - - Access to the
specific website is a breeze.

A personal preference is to have a PDF document
available with all the live links to the various
websites.

In doing research at the search engines it is really
convenient to download a document published in PDF.

One of the problems associated with the documents
published in PDF is that the listing at the search
engine may look a bit scrambled.

The problem is not the search engine - the problem is
most probably with the PDF document itself -
the way it is created by the author.

The very first line in the document is interpreted as
the title. The second line is interpreted as part of the
abstract or first paragraph.
That is all my opinion!
That is the exact method I will be using!

The title and the abstract are of utmost importance.
This is where an interested researcher/searcher
obtains the information about the contents of the PDF
document.

It is important to create a downloadable document in
the specific format such that the information in the
listings at the search engine is useful to the
searcher.

The best advice currently available is to
research the editorial guidelines given at
http://directory.google.com and/or
http://www.dmoz.org
