Funeral planning is difficult, no matter if you are planning for a loved one's funeral or planning in advance for you and your husband or wife. The good news is that folks can rely on quite a few quality funeral facilities for their funeral planning needs.

It is best to know that there are basically two funeral service types, Traditional services and Cremating the remains.

Traditional Funerals
Traditional funerals are typically more common, but cremation services have risen in popularity in recent years. Traditional funerals incorporate a formalized service sometimes called a wake that allows loved ones to "view" the person and pay their respects to the person they love.

The wake or viewing typically is followed by a dignified service at the funeral facility or in a house of worship. Many services can also be set outside too. The funeral may include the reading of prayers or speeches by family and friends. The service may also include music, dedications or special mementos.

Traditional services also include a hearse to transport the body, embalming and readying the remains for the viewing before entombment. Funeral planning may also include floral arrangements, musical choices or cherished items to be placed in or near the burial site.

Cremating Services
Despite what most people think, the choice for cremating services does not discount the opportunity for a funeral service. Most funeral facilities that offer burial services can provide traditional services like a wake prior to the cremation service.

The main distinction is in the procedure for handling the remains. When cremation service is selected, the body is cremated and the cremains are frequently given to a family member contained within an urn. With a traditional burial, a casket, burial plot and other services are needed. A burial marker is also generally placed on the burial plot.

No matter what type of service you decide on, be sure to find a dedicated funeral facility for advice on which options are best for you.
