Students' approval of Tablet PCs and implications for educational institutions

This research develops and empirically tests a variable model for understanding college students' endorsement of Tablet PC (TPC) as a way to predict, explain, and improve their use pattern in education. The evaluation involved more than 230 students from Midwestern association that was regional. Overall, our model exhibited a good fit using the data and provided acceptable explanatory power in an educational setting for pupils' endorsement of TPC. Analysis of the results implies several implications to educational institutions. Most notably will be the requirement for programs directed at affecting pupils' attitudes and perceptions towards TPC, creating an environment of a positive image enclosing the utilization of TPC on campus, and easing the use of TPC.Tablet PC's expand the freedom provided by laptops by giving the capacity to record handwriting employing a magnetic pencil. Since the introduction of the first commercial Tablet PC in autumn 2002, TPC have been steadily gaining market share with sales expected to reach 14 million by 2009 (Ozok, Benson, Chakraborty, & Norcio, 2008). The portability and easy note requiring made possible by TPC have attracted users from various sectors including health care, building, government, and instruction. In schooling, the use of computer technology in collegiate classroom can enhance teaching when used appropriately (Barak, Lipson, & Lerman, 2006). Accordingly, using the proliferation of mobile computing initiatives across campuses, assessment of such initiatives becomes the logical next step. The assessment ultimately centers on the pupils' learning and teaching effectiveness. Yet for such initiatives to boost students' learning and teaching effectiveness, these initiatives has to be accepted by students and faculty . For the reason that aspect, the aim of this research would be to understand the factors influencing students' acceptance of TPC as a means to predict, clarify, and improve usage pattern. The research builds on earlier technology acceptance research to come up with a factor model to assess various factors driving approval inside the context of students' endorsement of TPC technology. The research contributes to a better comprehension of the intro and direction of information technology (IT) established initiatives in education using a specific emphasis on TPC.The next section offers a short overview of related past research followed by a comprehensive characterization of our research model. The research model identifies applicable variables and captures dependency relationships among these variables in the form of a number of theories to be analyzed in this research. Next, we describe the methodology employed highlighting data analysis, data collection, and the study design. We summarize the results obtained with respect to model testing results and measurement validity followed by a discussion of implications for educational institutions. We conclude using a summary of limitations research contributions, and venues for future research. Technology approval The technology endorsement literature files a rich collection of models and theories that could be used to explain the adoption of information technology innovations (Venkatesh, Davis, & Morris, 2007; Venkatesh, Morris, Davis, & Davis, 2003). With respect to person (in contrast to organizational) approval of technology these models use aim or utilization as a dependent variable.
