Keeping your car's windshield clean is one of the most important ways of making your vehicle safer. Auto glass is easy to clean, but you must be careful. Dirt, bugs, bird droppings, tree sap and other visual hindrances tend to build up and stick to your windshield. Fortunately, there are a lot of products and techniques to give you a spotless, sparkling windscreen.

Here is a step-wise guide to keeping your windscreen clean:

1.Pick a good cleaning solution. When it comes to cleaning solutions, the average car geek is spoilt for choice. These range from ammonia-based glass cleaners to specific auto glass cleaners to all-purpose household cleaners to good old soap and water. If you choose to use ammonia, be careful not to spill it on any vinyl, leather or rubber your vehicle may have. Keep in mind that ammonia is very harmful to a variety of materials. Ammonia can also be hazardous to your health, so be wary of using it on the interiors. Spray-bottle glass cleaners are the most popular solution.
2.Wash the windshield with water before using a cleaning solution. Scrub water off the windshield glass in straight lines with a soft brush. Only use horizontal or vertical motions; there's no need to scrub too hard because you're only doing an initial wash to loosen the grime up.
3.Put the glass-cleaning solution to use. Spray the cleaner to one side of a towel. A microfiber towel is best if you have one, and begin cleaning. Use long broad strokes and work from one side to the other for a cleaner, clearer result. If residue remains after the first run, do it again until you get it right.
4.Allow the windshield glass to dry before trying anything else.
5.Prevent dirty windshields in the first place. Make sure your wiper fluid is topped up, and ensure the blades are in working order. Replace wiper blades once every 6 months. If there is build-up on the wiper blade, wipe it down with rubbing alcohol. The angle of the blade is also important. Adjust the arm of the wiper to about 70 degrees (versus a straight vertical 90-degree arm). If your wipers are very dirty, scrub them down with baking soda and water. Bad wipers can make permanent damages on windshield.
6.Avoid cleaning in direct sunlight or hot conditions. This is especially important if you are using a window cleaner with harsh chemicals. When the liquid evaporates, the rising fumes could be toxic, posing a serious health risk. Even with non-toxic cleaners, evaporation could lead to a spotty residue before the towel even hits the glass.
Some more handy tips to keep your car's glass spotless:

1.If you want to apply any kind of special treatment materials, do it after the glass is completely clean and dry for best results.
2.If you do not own a microfiber towel, newspaper will work just as well. The ink acts as a solvent and the wet paper will not leave any lint behind.
