TSS Live Calls- June 14
written by Roman Loyola on Monday, June 14, 2004

Call No. 1: HTML editors
Jason in Fairfield, Iowa, is looking for a recommendation for a HTML editor.

Kevin says that using Microsoft Front Page is OK, but it uses proprietary tags that can break in some Web browsers. If you want to build a basic page, Front Page is OK.

Kevin likes Macromedia Dreamweaver. It has better features for complex websites.

You can also buy a HTML book and try writing HTML code manually. It's a good way to learn how HTML works.

Call No. 2: broadband shopping
Chris in Wynne, Ark., is shopping for broadband. Should he get DSL, cable, or satellite?

Get satellite is you have no other choice. Satellite doesn't work well for games. It's great for downloads and Web surfing.

Cable was great speeds, but you have to take security precautions to protect your PC. Check your cable providers for deals with your cable TV service.

DSL isn't as fast as cable, but it's still pretty fast.

Talk to your neighbors and friends. We recommend cable, but look for the best price deals. If you can get DSL significantly cheaper than cable, consider it.

Call No. 3: Wi-Fi boost
Michael in Middleburg, Fla., wants to share his Wi-Fi connection with his neighborhood. How can he do this?

You can upgrade the antenna on your Wi-Fi router to one with greater range. If you use a 15dB, 2.4 GHz antennta, you should be able to broadcast over a nice, long range.
