As we face this major financial crisis, more and more families are being forced to turn to payday lenders for short-term loans with sky-high interest rates just to make ends meet.

In the Oregon House Jeff Merkley took on the lobbyists for the predatory lending industry by passing the Predatory Lending Cap Act, which imposed a 36 percent interest rate cap on state-regulated consumer loans, and the Check Cashing Fairness Act, which placed strict limits on check cashing fees.

In the U.S. Senate, Jeff Merkley will take on the predatory lenders and crack down on payday loan sharks and credit card scams that cheat middle class families.
