This is a key component to year-round sustainability.
I am growing 2 avocado trees, 3 guava trees, 1 meyer's lemon, 2 passion fruit, 5 kiwis, and 1 mango tree.
I have two massive compost piles dividing the dome so I have year round composting and so the pile can give off heat.
I AM using a propane heater to supplement, but only if the natural temperature drops below 40F. I am not crazy about this, but it is a step in the right direction. Having a thermostat is crucial for proper greenhouse use.
Ive got a box fan on the ceiling of the dome that blows warm air (which rises) back down to the bottom, and my little walkway around the hot-tub give a little low point for the coldest air to rest into, while the trees (which are higher up) stay just a little bit warmer. Its important to give the cold air a place to go.
I know it might sound ironic to use fossil fuels to grow trees that shouldnt be grown in Minnesota to begin with, but it is a work in progress, and I think that the backup propane is only needed 2-3 months out of the year. (and only because I do not live there yet to use scrap wood to keep it warm instead)
Note*** My jacket is 100% vegan...that fur is faux fur. No animals were harmed in the making of this video or this greenhouse :)
Thanks for watching!
