My rebuttal against the criticisms I recieved regarding my first vlog.
Transcript:
Hello. I'm back for my second vlog. I was thinking about things that happened recently. People watched my first vlog\~and criticized me...
"You're faking it!"
"You're not yourself!"
"That's not your signing style!"
I was amazed to hear such things, I said, "Really? I do??"
So I watched my vlog repeatedly and I found nothing wrong with it. I decided to inquire people\~for their opinions. My hearing friend agreed, "It's not you, either." My deaf friends commented that I was "trying too hard."
I mused, "Ah, really. I see." So I made another attempt. I feel that this is me, signing in my natural state.
Why?
Because there is no person in front of me, I am talking to a camcorder. Right? That's it.
So I sign the way I want.
A theory came to mind...
When I converse with different people, depending on the individual, the individual may only use SEE, I would use SEE to match the individual.
Another may prefer ASL, I'd 'up' it to match the person's skill level. It varies from person to person.
Do you pause to think,"Oh, right, that person only uses SEE!" beforehand?
No, you don't think about it! It happens naturally when you enter the conversation with the person.
Right? So.... with the theory in mind, with the camera recording, (talking to nobody)
What does it mean?
Does it mean I am using sign language, using my true style in my most natural state?
I wonder.
That will be all, to sum everything up. From now on, I will try to sign the way I usually do, and be myself.
Honestly, the point of starting a vlog.. I want to improve my ASL skills, as I find it captivating. Now I am working on improving myself, by learning!
Pushing aside fingerspelling, I don't want to depend on it anymore.
Secondly, it is also an opportunity for me to meet the others through vlogging. So I wanted to fulfill the purpose of my vlog and explain why.
It's my goal for starting a vlog. If you want to criticize me, that's fine with me. I accept everything.
How to improve my sign skills, or, on facial expressions or body language... shortening my movie clips, and so on.
I will do so.
Anyway, that is all I have to say in this vlog. Thank you for watching me and giving me advice with my gracious thanks.
Later, I'm going to the football game, I'm wearing makeup, green eyeshadow! Maybe I'll plan to go shopping and buy something green to wear to the football game, with the roughriders versus the calgary stampeders. On a side, red, and the other side green, I decided on cheering for the rough riders with my deaf friends who is all getting together later tonight.
Maybe I'll see you there!
Ok, you take care!
