Hello, and Welcome to another sneak peek into PlayStation 3 Exclusives. This time we take a look at Warhawk.
Warhawk is a multiplayer only, third-person shooter, vehicle and flight combat game that is a remake of an aerial warfare game of the same name, which was a launch title on the original PlayStation. Warhawk PS3 recieved many great reviews and much praise from gamers. It had some slight stat tracking issues when it first came out, but was fixed with patches later on. Patch 1.50 is the most recent patch introducing many new things to the game, most importantly, Trophies!
With Warhawk, you are set in a fictional, perpetual war between the Eucadian and Chernovan armies. Your jobs are to eliminate each other, or capture each others flag..etc.. like any other online game. The game, IMO, runs real smoothly online and supports up to 32 players at a time. The music in the game is very nice orchestrated music, but you can also use the custom sountrack as I have done in the video if you do not prefer the ingame music. The sound fx are also very well done with powerfull explosions and gun fire all around in nice 7.1 Surround sound!
The gameplay is tight and just right for the vehicles, and the warhawks fly very nicely (now if I can just get good at using them!). The graphics are pretty nicely done with incredible looking water and cloud effects. I really like how smoothly everything seems to run online. I never see any lag at all and wish every game in the world ran this smoothly online. This game makes the PSN really shine and it shows that just because it's free to play online, doesnt make it inferior. PS3 has shown this with many games online and this one is a prime example along with Resistance 2 online.
Warhawk has seen many patches that have added a ton of new things to the game and it has also seen 3 expansion packs as well adding 3 new stages to play on and adding new vehicles and dropships including hover packs! The expansions are all for sale in the PSN Store for about $7 each.
Bottom Line: Warhawk is a game I highly recommend for any fan of online warfare. It's simply all out fun and just an enjoyable game all around. If you have online broadband go get yourself a copy of the game (same price for the BluRay disc as the PSN download so its best just to buy the real deal from the store). Don't bother with the box set though, as the new Official PS3 Headset is much better than the Jabra one that comes with the box set of Warhawk.
This game is in 720p native, has Dual Shock 3 Rumble support, and has DTS Surround sound quality (along with uncompressed 7.1 PCM like most PS3 exclusives).
