Popeye (v99 by DDR Creations)-Played by Me
Ryuuken v1.1 (by aZCal)-AI Controlled

Stage: Madness (by P.O.T.S.)

Description: A match that I've been wanting to do for a very long time, but was scared stiff by the opponent of todays showcase. I have fought him numerous other times as Popeye (and other members of my team), but I can think of only a handful of other characters that are in this calibur of difficulty while just an iota short of being unbeatable.

If ever there was a character that actually stopped you dead in your tracks to the point of giving up while playing arcade mode, this is it. His AI is brutal, but pretty do-able. It's his low health trigger that inspires fear into the hearts of all men, women, children, and some breeds of monkeys. It's this ability that loses the match for (I'm guessing) a good majority of people who fight him. To start off, all of his Hyper moves are unblockable. His parry rate is set to 84% normally, but once he hits his trigger, it jumps to 99%.

In his triggered state his stats also rise to obscenely high levels, and he still keeps the AI he had before. Not to mention his constant teleporting can cross you up and make you dizzy (no foolin' if you really just concentrate and stare at his movements throughout the match). Just to give you an idea on how tough he is, my brother recently faced him as Popeye (his favorite character as well) and most everytime he pulled off the Perfikt Storm super move (the big ship that rams the opponent), Ryuuken parried every single hit in his triggered state.

As stated in his readme though, the creator purposefully kept his AI flawed to try to even things out. It works wonders and it does buy you time, but in his triggered state, all he has to do is parry once, his AI kicks in and that plan you had to finish him off goes down the tubes. Also it was through watching my brother play that I figured out a few of his weaknesses with Popeye (what you want I'm a slow learner):

1-He has a very hard time parrying projectiles
2-He is still vulnerable to grabs and throws
3-He is weak to Pappy and Wimpy

Armed with that new-found knowledge and wisdom, it took about 7-8 tries to beat him for this video (last time it took about 13+ using my old techniques, even then I had to just quit arcade to keep what was left of my sanity and my temper (temper may or may not have been included at that time).

So in conclusion, you're probably wondering why the title of this Video is called Ryuuken's Retirement. Well essentially, it's his retirement from my arcade fighting match-up list. I had him set as a boss for a good while now, so I figured this video would be a good way to end my frustration. It's also a testament to anyone that, "he is beatable by a fair and legit character" (Violent Ken can beat him very well because of his projectiles and his supers, and yes compared to a good majority of Creations out there Popeye is considered fair and legit in my book). Also as a final note, sorry for the quality of the video, but the Sparta stage ate up some speed usage on the video, and I am NOT going back to get another take =P.

Gotta look out for yourself sometimes.
