The CEO of Caterpillar has directly contradicted an assertion made yesterday by President Barack Obama, and again today, that Caterpillar will rehire some of the 22,000 workers it laid off last month if the Obama Stimulus Plan passes Congress. CEO James Owens said exactly the opposite at a press conference today. In fact, he said they would probably have to lay off more workers. The video above shows Obama making the assertion, and then the direct contradiction by the Caterpillar CEO.
This is another outstanding reporting job by Jake Tapper of ABC News. He is showing himself to be the class of the White House Press Corps. He is fair, but not starry-eyed about Obama like 99% of the reporters. I hope he will continue to hold his feet to the fire.
