Workers Fall Victim to Fake Construction Jobs

Bookmark and Share
This story is going to make foreign workers think twice before they hand any money over for a potential job and they should.

550 Slovakians were cheated out of their money because an east Londoner fraudster promised them a future working in construction.

The revelation is scheduled to air on a BBC documentary that details how Nigel Lewis charged eager workers 600 Euro dollars, for a chance to work on the site of the Olympic Village.

According to the Contract Journal, the workers were to also be put up in a cruise ship in the Docklands, but once the cash was handed over and before any workers could say bon voyage Lewis was out of site.

The documentary airing on BBC alleges that Mr. Lewis advertised for tradesmen and catering staff to work on the east London site. Previously, in 2003, Lewis was sentenced to 120 hours of community service for a similar scam.

The new provider mentions that many of the Slovakians took out loans in hopes to be working in construction jobs, that never existed.

When I think of work one should get paid and not the other way around.
