Bookmark and Share
Hello, it's Wednesday, May 23, 2007. I'm Rebecca Field with a UPI entertainment update.

Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno is the newest "Dancing With the Stars" champion. He and partner Julianne Hough took first place in last night's show. The duo danced the paso doble before grabbing the trophy. N'Sync's Joey Fatone and partner Kym Johnson took second place. And boxing champion Laila Ali and Maxim Chmerkovsky placed third. The winner for the ABC dancing contest was determined by viewer votes and judges' scores.

Actress Angelina Jolie says she'll take a year off acting. She told reporters yesterday at the Cannes film festival that in a few months she'll take a break to spend time with family. The actress did not indicate if her boyfriend Brad Pitt will also be taking time off. Pitt and Jolie were at Cannes to promote their new film "A Mighty Heart." Jolie stars in the film and Pitt's production company produced it.

"Napoleon Dynamite" star Jon Heder is a new dad. His rep tells People magazine the actor and wife Kirsten welcomed a baby girl recently. There's no indication of the exact birth date. The new baby's name is Evan Jane Heder and she's reportedly doing well. Heder and Kirsten met at college and announced they were expecting last fall.

Rapper Busta Rhymes has settled a 100,000 dollar assault lawsuit. Rhymes was charged with allegedly beating up a fan who asked for an autograph in 2005. Rhymes says he never assaulted the man. There's no word on the terms of the settlement. The rapper says he missed the original court dates because legal papers were delivered to his ex-girlfriend's address...where he no longer lives.

Actor Richard Gere will star and produce a new film about man's best friend. Variety magazine reports he'll appear in an upcoming release titled "Hachiko: A Dog's Story." The movie, based on a 1987 Japanese film, is about a college professor who forms a bond with an abandoned dog. It's set to begin production in September but there's no word yet on a release date.

That's all for now, thanks for watching today's entertainment update. Enjoy the rest of your day.
