US Open champion Tiger Woods is done for the year. After an epic 91-hole triumph, Woods announced he'll undergo surgery on his left knee for the fourth time. Tournament organizers and sponsors now look to prevent a ratings free-fall in Tiger's absence. [Paul Farhi, Golf Reporter]: "He brings in more people who care less about golf and more about Tiger Woods and what Tiger is going to do. So you can put Michael Jordan in his category. You can put any superstar there. But Tiger Woods probably transcends them all." This year's Ryder Cup played this September looks to be contested without Woods as well. @@@@@ Now to Euro 2008 for some dramatic finishes over the weekend. On Saturday, it was the youth of Russia coming up big, stunning the Netherlands 3 to 1 in extra time. Andrei Arshavin was sensational on the night, creating a score and adding another, as the Russian midfielders were simply too much for the Dutch. And on Sunday, Spain toppled World Champions Italy 4-2 in a penalty shootout. Spanish keeper Iker Casillas saved two penalties from Daniele De Rossi and Antonio Di Natale before Cesc Fabregas netted the winner. Spaniards had not cheered a major win over Italy in 88 years. Spain meets Russia in Vienna on Thursday. @@@@ And, finally, Wimbledon is set to begin as enthusiastic tennis fans are lining up for tickets.
