(Sorry about the audio I hope you can hear. Here's the transcript)
Finally it's happened, and it could have been under odder conditions.
No good deed ever goes unpunished. I let a friend use my garage for less than 20 hours and in that time my nav system, radio and about $800 worth of other random electronics in my car. They even stole a $20 air compressor I forgot to take out of the trunk. They didn't knife my dash and actually used a screwdriver to pull out the radio, so I'm guessing they had experience with my make and model.
They didn't break any windows or damage anything else in the car, and it's still running, which is a plus. I'm just angry at myself that I went against my better judgment and gave up my garage at all and I'm disappointed that this happened so quickly.
Can I please get wealthy enough to live in a place where a 20 year old car with a 3 year old nav system in it isn't considered a target?
Oh, and the worst part. I call the police department, and since I didn't see the break in for myself, they'll have a mail-in police report form sent to my home in 5 business days. Good to see my tax dollars are being spent well.
It would probably get covered by my renter's insurance, but I fear the deductible plus whatever increase in premium I'd pay throughout my lifetime would be more than just replacing what was stolen.
Last thing I'll say is... I hate California. Maybe it's not like this everywhere, but this is not the first or second or third time things have been stolen in my home in the year I've been here. If this keeps going I'm going to have to set aside $2000-$3000 every year just to replace things that are stolen from me. I came here for the money, but if this keeps happening, I'll gladly move back to Portland. I already want to.
Thanks for listening to the rant.
