Scottsville, NY--Betty Rogowski says the Thruway's toll increase can best be described in two words, highway robbery.
"I think that should come out of the taxes we pay on the thruway, says Rogowski. Obviously they make enough money on the tolls. They should be using that wisely and it's not."
The Medina resident is headed to the Market Place Mall in Henrietta to do some shopping. She says the five percent hike will make her think twice about taking the Thruway her next trip:
"The thruway is convenient but back roads are nice. They're scenic and less expensive. "
Rogowski plans on finding an alternate route, but others we spoke with say they don't mind the penny per mile increase. They still plan on taking the Thruway.
"It's still better than driving a different way so it's not that big of a deal," says Ottawa resident John Staff.
"With the price of everything else I mean fruits and vegetables have gone up. Gas has gone up and come back down, so, its just part of life," adds Toni Louden.
This is the first of two toll increases thruway users can expect with in the next several years. The increase doesn't go into affect until January 4th. Both cash and E-Z Pass users will pay five percent more both this year and in 2010.
