Dear Google, as I read your Project 10to100 page, the following words struck me.
Maybe the answer that helps somebody is in your head, in something you've observed, some notion that you've been fiddling with, some small connection you've noticed, some old thing you have seen with new eyes.
For over 15 years I have been dreaming of the following idea, yet never knew how I could possibly carry it out. Now I know with your help. Thank you Google for the opportunity to present an idea that would help our communities. By providing innovative shelter for homeless families, through environmentally friendly and energy efficient living modules we can make a difference. I believe the need is urgent, the idea is simple and cost effective, can be implemented in as very short time, and will have a long-term effect upon humanity and how they think and live. In short, a means to a paradigm shift in the way we think about the world. I humbly submit it for your consideration.
What one sentence best describes your idea?
Develop geodesic shaped cheap modular shelters for homeless families, with solar/wind power, water generation, bio waste systems, and a garden/compost greenhouse.
Describe your idea in more depth.
The concept is a throw back to the Native American culture of tepee type green communities ─ however, utilizing the proven golden ratio pyramid design as a modern upgrade as transitional housing in a safe and secure environment for homeless families up to 4-5 people in each, on tax deed auctioned parcels of land (at fire sale prices) throughout the USA in rural/urban/suburban/cities during the ensuing recession/depression until families recover from their dire circumstances. Cluster the Geomods© in small sanctuary communities of up to four-five modules (five families or 20-25 people) in a matrix of power sharing/saving centers, preferably off the utilities grid to keep operating costs low, and a greenhouse garden/compost house, to feed the dispossessed of our country. The designs can be scaled up or down easily because of the golden ratio formula, using existing manufacturing techniques and Eco-friendly materials (ZEOFORM - hemp plastics), at a factory using scalable cost reducing processes. The various side sections, including the floor sections of the Geomods© can be attached easily with preformed male/female snap together locking mechanisms, and sealed with weatherproofing silicon sealants. Inscribed in the moulds would be cut out areas for simple doors/windows/vents on sides not facing the suns path, for on the sunny sides of the Geomods© will be attached the solar arrays for power generation. Simple preformed kitchenettes and shower/toilet sections with basic plumbing can be incorporated into the designs. Initially the Geomod© can be manufactured and built onsite with tight co-ordination of the supply of the ancillary units such as the greenhouse/water generation/solar/wind systems the whole micro-community can be ready to occupy in a very short time. The Geomod© Project can be set up as a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization to fund its growth.
What problem or issue does your idea address?
The #1 problem facing the USA (and the world) is increasing homelessness and hunger. Lack of affordable housing leads the list of causes for homelessness. In 2003, statistics showed that 3.5 million people, 39% of them children, experience homelessness every year. 60% of all new homeless cases are single mothers with children! That was before the crash of 2008 and the foreclosure crisis, which has evicted millions of people from their homes. It can only get worse, for this housing crisis is far from over, as more and more families are pushed out of their homes onto the streets to be exposed to the cruelties of life without the safety and security of shelter. Pure love in the eyes of God is to care for widows and orphans in their distress. This idea addresses this catastrophe by providing quick efficient housing solutions to protect our mothers and children, our future.
