Union Minister for Human Resource Development
Arjun Singh today said new technologies would help India take a higher place in the world.
While addressing centrally sponsored mega programme of the 'National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technologym (ICT)' at Sri Venkateswara University in this holy town, he said former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi was the brain child for technology development in the country and now, the UPA government had brought new education policies in the country for benefit of rural students.
The mission project was designed last year and launched today. Mr Singh said the aim of this initiative was to address the goals of access, equity and quality in higher education and attempt to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural as well as between the rich and poor strata of society. The project is a part of Ministry's those initiatives which will help the common man in his quest for education. A sum of Rs 4,612 crore has been allocated for it in the 11th Plan, he added.
