I Need You - A Luke & Laura video tribute

Bookmark and Share
I dont know about anyone else, but I need a little healing after reading that Halloween Horror interview that Tony Geary gave, where he confirmed some spoilers relating to Luke and Laura and LuNacy AND after the earache I received yesterday after listening to the hogwash spewed from Luke's mouth! Anyone who has spent any significant amount of time with this story, and I've spent 30 years with it, knows that the changes Bob the Luza is attempting to make in the history of these characters is nothing more than a bunch of green, ghoulish slop! There IS no choice for Luke Spencer! There is NO other love for him but Laura! There is only ONE Mrs. Lucas Lorenzo Spencer and her name isnt Tracy! No one has ever matched Luke in any way, shape or form except his beloved Angel. Laura is fun; she is sexy; she is beautiful; she is grace; she is light; she is love; she is humanity; she is earth-mother; she is goddess! I can see, in a tilted universe, where all reason slides into nothingness, how Luke would rather have a cackling, overbearing, brooding, shrill, nosey, scheming, devious, harpy like Tracy. Yeah, that could happen....

Luke never needed a high-ball, glass full of Scotch 24-7 just to get through the day when he was with Laura; he never needed to Tom-cat around when Laura was in his bed, because she was all the woman he needed. So, all of this story thats about to come out sounds to me like "Halloween 2008" and Mike Meyers has done an excellent hatchet job on Luke Spencer and walked away with his brain.

Trying to put this garbage into perspective and keep my hope alive, I returned to the story highlighted in this video where it ALL truly began for Luke and Laura: that glorious, first summer on the run when they were dodging the mob, hit men, danger and pursuing the Left-Handed Boy. Within that framework, we got some of the most powerful scenes, beautiful writing and hot love in the summertime. They were Einstein's Theory of Relativity come to life: e=mc2, in his words, that mass and energy are both but different manifestations of the same thing. In the Luke and Laura version: energy and magic = charisma2, i.e. both but different manifestations of the same thing.

They flowed together like a perfectly crafted poem. They spoke with their eyes, not needing one word of dialogue uttered between them for the audience to know just what they were saying to one another. They turned the heat up with a glance and started the fire with the subtlest of touch. It was hot and passion and love all rolled up into a spectacular display of what romance was and should be.

This video focuses on that part of the story when Luke and Laura have returned to the Whittaker's farm, have admitted their love for one another, and the only thing left for her to do is remove her wedding ring. Once she did, The Walls of Jericho came tumbling down and we were finally able to say that Luke and Laura, couple extra ordinaire had truly been born.

The words of this song sound like something they would say then and now to one another:

I don't need a lot of things
I can get by with nothing
Of all the blessings life can bring
I've always needed something
But, I've got all I want
When it comes to loving you
You're my only reason
You're my only truth

I need you like water
Like breath, like rainI need you like mercy
From heaven's gate
There's a freedom in your arms
That carries me through
I need you

You're the hope that moves me
To courage again, oh yeah!
You're the love that rescues me
When the cold winds rage,
And it's so amazing
'cause that's just how you are
And I can't turn back now
'cause you've brought me too far

I need you like water
Like breath, like rain
I need you like mercy
From heaven's gate
There's a freedom in your arms
That carries me through
I need you
Oh yes I do

I need you like water
Like breath, like rain
I need you like mercy
From heaven's gate
There's a freedom in your arms
That carries me through
I need you
Oh yes I do
I need you
I need you

One thing Luke did say to Laura during that time was this: "We know each other so well. I've lived with your strength and your weakness, and you're the only person who will ever hear me cry in my sleep because I'm scared."

So, take heart, Luke and Laura fans. WE know the truth regarding this love story and we will continue to be the standard bearers for it. No one will ever diminish the brilliance and magic Gloria Monty gave us when she paired Genie and Tony. Nothing will EVER compare to them.
