The advertisement includes testimonials from constituents about Shays work to improve education, lower taxes and protect constituents threatened by foreclosure.

Shays had the foresight on the need for oversight long before the current economic crisis. He was among the earliest and strongest advocates in Congress for stronger regulation of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and has repeatedly noted that improved oversight and transparency could have avoided the need for their recent takeover. He has also co-hosted several mortgage forums for banks, community organizations, housing experts and loan servicers to come together and provide some borrowers with the information and assistance they need to get mortgages they can afford.

Shays has obtained more than $55 million in education funding since 2005, including Head Start grants for Action for Bridgeport Community Development, a non-profit agency providing services for low-income children and their families. He has also secured hundreds of thousands of federal dollars for Bridgeports Lighthouse Afterschool Program, which provides a host of educational and recreational activities for students in the citys public school district.

Shays has obtained millions in road funding, including $11.25 million since 2005 for Seaview Avenue, a four-lane roadway connecting Interstate 95 to Bridgeports Lake Success Business Park. He has also secured $9.045 million since 2005 for the Stamford Atlantic Rail Underpass Redesign, which will widen railroad underpasses and make roadway improvements.

Shays supports tax relief, which includes voting to extend the capital gains and dividends tax cut to 2010 and cosponsoring legislation to permanently extend these reduced tax rates. He also voted to protect millions of middle-class Americans from paying the alternative minimum tax (AMT), and he supports further reducing the AMT, which disproportionately affects our region.
