Customers Upset Over Cash Ban On iPhones

Bookmark and Share
Some customers are upset over Apple's new payment restrictions on iPhones.

The $400 iPhone is expected to be a popular purchase this holiday season, but you have to use a credit card to buy it, and there is a two-phone limit per customer.

Apple announced it will not accept cash or Apple gift cards as payment for an iPhone. "You can't buy it using an Apple gift card? That doesn't make sense," one customer said.

KMBC's Maria Antonia talked with employees at the Apple store at the Plaza about the new policy. One worker admitted that "it's crazy" not to accept an Apple gift card.

Apple representatives have said the company wants to discourage unauthorized resellers from modifying the devices so they work on networks other than the intended carrier, AT&T.

An Apple worker said the credit card is required to set up a cell phone plan.
