This run was to test the use of 50 weight, non-detergent, aviation oil instead of castor oil. All in all, the performance seemed to be the same. Idling became an issue as can be seen. However, the top end sounded very smooth and strong. No tach readings as the batteries went south, (rechargeable).

Diesels CAN be run successfully on no ether mixes. Amsoil seems to be a very good ignition/cetane improver and seems quite superior to MEKP. However, keep in mind, MEKP works in a pinch in fuel containing ether. An ether mix WAS tested without and WITH, MEKP and its value was established. Work on this engine and flying the .074 has given me a clue as to what may be happening with the idle. That will be posted here.

The goal here is to use locally available ingredients as much as possible and eliminate the most troublesome and expensive one,,, the ether.

Addendum:

Kelly, my confidant and most valuable critic has pointed out his concerns with recommending MEKP. While I've been giving it the green light as being no more dangerous than when used as resin hardener, this may not be a good idea. When mixing with resin, it's only exposed a short time in its raw form and then is instantly rendered harmless when used as intended. Mixed with fuel, even though in a very diluted form, it may still have its nasty properties intact. Getting raw fuel in the eyes isn't pleasant at the best of times. Including MEKP in that kind of accident can potentially be much worse.

Considering the ease of acquiring, and the economy of use of the Amsoil cetane booster, I would encourage anyone that might be inspired by this series to just get the Amsoil. They will take credit cards and will ship from their nearest location direct to you by parcel mail. No Hazmat issues at all.
