For many of us, our belief in ill-ness does nothing but seemingly expand, and so do hospitals that care for us. That is what this demolition is about: making way for a hospital's construction plans to house more of us who need health care. Recently, older hospital buildings on their grounds were demolished to make way for an 11-story, $135 million heart tower that will address the rising demand for heart care by aging baby boomers. The hospital also continues to purchase homes in the surrounding area and demolish them. Ironic that the demolition in this video occurred on Valentine's Day, Febuary 14th.

I am not proud that my city, my state, my country, allows this to happen in the name of community redevelopment. I will never be pleased to see corporate concerns demolish our jewels of history. Surely there are ways to incorporate some of this architectural history into corporate plans for expansion. .

Some history-minded residents in the area saved much of the fine details of this house, removing mantels and woodwork, windows and more. The removal of the porch itself, an ornate, prime example of a gingerbread relic that is only momentarily seen in this video, will be shown in a future video, as will be the complete process of the demolition.

The images of the people and their happy sounds, the flowers and trees in bloom, are moments I have shared with the man who lived in the house. The house is gone now, but friendships like ours remain. The acronym for our self-named community of what used to be 3 houses was the W.O.W. (yes, my house was in the middle, hence my name "Mother O")...we've said to each other more than once that W.O.W. is a state of mind...I've never experienced such a feeling of community as I have here on the W.O.W.

In today's world, with wars, hate and killings, saving our historical structures is certainly not the highest priority. But this type of demolition does speak of our values and of our culture. I personally think it would be beneficial if we were to change this picture.
