Beware of a contractor who only gives you his business number and not his cell phone number. If a contractor doesn’t give you his personal number, it is not because he is low on minutes. It’s because he doesn’t want to be contacted.
Another warning sign of a bad contractor is how his truck looks. Pay attention to his truck. A successful contractor will have up to date equipment and tools and will take pride in his appearance. This doesn’t mean he will be wearing Armani suits to work, but he will have a truck that is not rusted out and will look like he is prepared to work.
Another thing to beware of is a contractor who only wants cash. You might be tempted to pay cash because they often cut you a deal if you pay cash. Just remember, if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is. While you might be getting a discount, you could also be losing something like insurance.
A contractor who does not want to get permits is not trustworthy. .................
