With Chinese New Year celebrations less than two weeks away, Indonesian shopping centers gearing up for the occasion. Shop owners are now putting Chinese decorations up, and creating an exciting New Years atmosphere. Our Jakara bureau brings us there.
STORY:
The Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year as many call it, is one of the most important traditional holidays in the Chinese calendar. Its called the Lunar New Year because it begins on the first day of the first lunar month so the date changes slightly ever year.
This New Year will be celebrated on January 26th. A shopping center in the west of Jakarta is now hosting the Exotic China event, which has many special Chinese performances. The lion dance, opera, and Chinese martial arts are just some of the highlights of the shows.
[Wina Andriyani, Puri Indah Public Relations]:
At special times like Chinese New Year, we want our visitors to enjoy their shopping with a different atmosphere. They can also celebrate the Chinese New Year here by watching the many attractions like the lion dance.
During the New Year, many Chinese buy special items to celebrate the season, such as basket cake, mocha cake, and Chinese flowers. But for now, its a 2-week waiting game until celebrations are in full swing.
