With Numbers, Microsoft Office has no more "raison d'ĂȘtre" on my Mac. At the Apple launch today, Steve Jobs showed Numbers, the company's new spreadsheet application and part of the iWork 08 office suite. Although Numbers does not support Excel macros, it does a good enough job for me to get rid of Excel on my MacBook. Which was actually, the only reason for me to keep Microsoft Office in the first place. When connected, I'm using Google's online wordprocessor and spreadsheet. But while offline, I like to have these applications on my hard drive. Now, iWork 08 does the trick. The other good thing about it, is that I don't have to worry anymore when Microsoft updates Microsoft Office for Mac... if they actually do!
