San Francisco has many busy intersections that are controlled by only two stop signs. We get many accident calls at these locations. It is almost always caused by the driver who has the stop sign. They either don't realize that crossing traffic doesn't have to stop or simply misjudge the speed and distance of the cars coming from left and right.
My advise, and what i do, when I find at one these intersections is to not risk the crossing but just make a right turn and then a left. I seen enough accidents at these intersections to realize that even a skilled driver is taking a risk crossing a road like this one that is four driving and two parking lanes wide.
