Intercontinental Hotel, a privately owned five-star hotel constructed with an outlay of 360 million Birr, was inaugurated on Saturday bringing the number of such hotels in the country to three.
The construction of the hotel located at the Kazanchis area off the Economic Commission of Africa (ECA), took two and half years to complete.
The hotel has a total of 152 rooms and a spacious swimming pool built in at the tenth floor of the hotel.
According to the owner of the hotel Simachew Kebede, the newly inaugurated hotel also accommodates two restaurants, three bars, a lounge, a night club, hall, and hi-tech gymnasium, among others.
Simachew further disclosed that the hotel consists of a presidential and VIP suits with modern facilities and international standard equipment that he said were surely to meet the needs.
"The hotel has been so far equipped with a state-of-the art technology; it can even resist a sudden fire eruption for a considerable period of time before any causality occurs," the owner noted during the inauguration ceremony at the hotel attended by high ranking officials including Minister of Culture and Tourism Mohammed Drir.
Speaking on the occasion Mohammed Drir said that the participation of investors in construction of world clas hotels will contribute in line with the country ambition to promote and expand conference tourism.
The minister added that the construction of such hotel helps to meet the "spiritual and material satisfaction" of tourists.
